The Isles of Vero Beach…Florida Living!

Standard

Just a short note today.  Living in this Independent Living Facility is pretty cool.  I get breakfast cooked to my taste everyday; I don’t have to clean toilets anymore; I can play cards to my heart’s content; I can go to Bingo three times a week and not have to go outside;  I can go and come as I wish; they even take out my trash; Our apartments are cleaned once a week; I don’t have to make beds anymore; Lunch and dinner are yummy in the dining room; the servers love all of us; and there is something to do if I am ever bored!

If you have issues with your body falling apart (or have a bad back and neck like I do), this is the best place to live.  There is a heated pool, a card room, social room, craft room, billliard room, chapel, and a drug store all on the property.  Check it out.  We have been here almost a year.Image

Birds of a feather fly together!

When you get to see a picture like this, it deserves to be shot. These guys really know how to party. Notice that they give each other room to move, but yet are very content to be all together…much like we do in our independent living facility. It is great to have people all around us, but we have our own space…a beautiful big apartment.

Tuesdays’ concerns…Bible Study Day

Standard

For the past twenty-five years I have held a Bible Study once a week in our home.  Here at the Isles, I offer a Women’s Bible Study once a week on Tues. nights, 6:15 pm. Tuesday night we began a study of James.  James is a pretty important disciple of Jesus.  In the first place, he is believed to be Jesus’ half brother.  Secondly, he became the head of the church in Jerusalem after Jesus’ death and resurrection. My Bible Study is non-denominational, which mean any Christian faith is welcomed.  One of my members is catholic and told me that Jesus had no brothers or sisters…that Mary remained a virgin throughout her life.  Is there any proof one way or the other?

Thanks for your answer in advance, My reference: John 7:5

All Pooped Out!

Standard

Wouldn’t you just know it!! After cleaning up fluids from both of us having the flu, now my dogs have it!  Besides that, they have fleas…and they never socialize or go outside…these are strictly lap dogs!!  I think the fleas came in under the door or on our pant legs…don’t know.  I picked two off of Lexie last night.  I can see them on her.  Missy has black hair and black skin, so I can’t find them on her.

Spent $33 on the “girls” today at Walmart.  Someone gave me a card for Christmas, so I had enough to only pay $8 out of bank money.    So this afternoon will be spent working on the girls, making them pretty and making them smell good!  They’ll love the bath but hate the nail trimming.

I have had enough poop to clean up!  Please…no more sickness in this apartment!  Lysol is almost out!

Learn to play Bridge.

Standard

While the computer is still running, I’d like to share yesterday’s events with you guys.  I received an email from a long-time best friend from high school and college.  She shared with me that before she retired, she took Bridge lessons!  Should have been me!!

Frank and I did take a lesson or two on our honeymoon cruise, but we didn’t really have anyone to play.  So…yesterday, different women here at the Isles asked me to sit in on a few games:  canasta and pinochle.  I do play both; just learned to play pinochle because Frank likes to play it.  I played canasta with my friend (above) everyday while we were in high school, so I do know how to play that game.  In fact, RonnAnn’s (my daughter) daddy and I played canasta the day before he died 47 years ago…and he won!!

Don’t think I ever taught her how to play.  Haven’t played since until this past week.

When you get old, there isn’t much to do.  Games are in!  However, the majority of men and women here play Bridge.  There are bridge games going on night and day every day it seems.  I also play SkipBo, my mother and dad’s favorite game, and RummyKube which is a game played with tiles.  My friend Bea is teaching me to play Mahjong, another favorite here at the Isles.

So, my suggestion, if you’re pushing 70, is to go out and learn to play bridge.  That way, you will have plenty of people who will want you to sit in on a game.  It seems I have to wait around a lot and hope someone wants to play.  You wouldn’t like it too much!
