My Funny Valentine

My Funny Valentine

Picture was taken on cruise a few years back…Frank and I have been married for 10 years. Tonight we went to a Valentine Dance here at the Isles. It was very nice. There was a band, food, drinks, and lots of people. I forgot to take my camera to get a few pictures, so this will have to do. Happy Valentines’ Day to all those who have lost their Valentine.

A Doll’s House

A Doll's House

I am just a kid at heart. I have dolls on my bed, a hobby horse in the sun room, and a fully furnished doll house, also in the sun room. Just couldn’t part with it when I moved to the Isles. One day I will share it and put it out for others to enjoy. As old women, we still love to play “house.”

Follow the Light

Standard

When I was in the tenth grade back in 1960, I had a near-death experience.  This is way before hearing anything like this on radio or TV.  I had asthma as a child and still was experiencing a few attacks in high school.  One night after everyone had gone to bed, I began having an attack.  I propped myself up on pillows to get my breath, but I just couldn’t seem to get comfortable. I used my inhaler, but it didn’t help.

All of a sudden, I was hovering over a bed.  I was up near the ceiling and looking down at this girl in the bed.  I didn’t know it was me.  At the foot of the bed there was a window, and a bright light was shining in the window.  I talked to the light and he talked back to me.  I did this without using my mouth…sort of brain to light….

The light said, “you may stay, or you may come with me.”  At that moment, I knew the girl in the bed was me.  I panicked.  I wanted to stay.  I went back into my body, and the light left.

I begin to shake and cry for Mother.  She came in, but I couldn’t tell her what happened.  I stopped wheezing.  She rubbed my back for a little while and went back to her room.

I will never forget that incident!  When people started telling about their experiences with the light and the tunnel…I recalled my visit with the light.  That light was Jesus.  I think I died for a minute or two before my time.  He gave me the choice to stay or go.  I’m glad I stayed because I have learned so much more about life, about death, about heaven, and about God.

I can help those who are afraid of dying because I know there is more.  That one incident has been followed by more close encounters with God.  If you stay up to date with my blogs, I may share a few more with you.

God Bless.

arches

One of my favorite arches is found on the site of a Coca Cola heir in Birmingham, AL.
I can’t remember the name of the plantation, but the gardens were beautiful as well as the house and furnishings. This was taken a few years back. Mother and I were traveling together.

Do you know where you’re going?

Standard

Another sad day.  A good friend and game-player died last night.  She had a terrific life.  She lived to be 88 like my mother.  We had a lot in common.  She knew she was dying…we all know that…but it never quite sinks in until a friend dies.  She asked me a month or so ago, “Will I know people in heaven?”

I told her that people do know each other in heaven, but the relationships are different.  Our husbands won’t be our husbands, etc., but we will know he is a loved one that we knew on Earth.

I know she’s in a better place.  She suffered and was alone here.  But she always had a smile and always wanted to challenge me in a game.  Most of the time she won.  She liked to win.

Now she has won the crown that God promises those who endure.  She has run the race. She will weep no more and have no pain.  She’ll be clothed in white garments and she’ll be beautiful.

Saying goodbye to two friends in one week is difficult, but the aftermath is joyful because they are both dancing on the streets of gold.  I’ll be there one day.  Will you?  Do you know where you’re going?  Are you sure?

Mahjong, anyone?

Standard

Played a new game today called “mahjong.”  It is an old Chinese game that I’ve seen many Jewish women playing. It is played with 144 tiles that have pictures/characters/numbers on them and is similar to playing rummy.  One plays with three other people.

The hard part of the game is knowing what goes with what…example:  bams go with other bams, cracks go with cracks, dots, with dots, and flowers with flowers.  There are also tiles for the four winds, N, S, E, W and green and red dragons.  There are also tiles called soaps…don’t know how to use them yet.

I played three games and only needed one tile when someone went out…with “mahjong.”

I liked the game.  The game board costs $8 and each person has her own.  You try to pick a set of pictures (on the game board)  to match with what you have…I changed patterns after the game started.

If you want to learn a game that a lot of women play, it is bridge.  But the second most played game is mahjong…so watch a game or go online and read about it or play it.  The only way to learn is to play it.

Games are an important part of growing old.  Playing them keeps the mind active and you sociable.

God Bless.
